LATEST REPORTS NOW FIRST

Week Commencing 21st April 2008      Two crucial matches determined the destination of the title of Divisional Champions which went to Buttsbury "F" by virtue of having won more matches than Brentwood Hard "A" when the teams tied level on points after 22 matches each.  Alan Tofts, David Ramsey and John Stokes collected six points in an away win at Hutton "B" - Ramsey had a lengthy battle with Mike Pratley (2 wins) in the penultimate singles before edging home 12/10, 12/14, 11/6, 6/11, 22/20 - he was also a narrow winner over Roy Barnes (1 win) 12/10, 10/12, 12/10, 11/9 getting home in each end by the narrowest of margins - Barnes, Ron Grief and Pratley all defeated Tofts with Pratley coming from behind against John Stokes to record another singles win 4/11, 7/11, 11/6, 11/4, 11/5 and with the doubles going to the visitors they just edged the match 6 - 4.      The match that won them the title saw Buttsbury "F" travel again to Hutton "D" when a 9 - 1 victory would see them level on points with the leaders of the division.  John Stokes and David Ramsey were unbeaten with Alan Tofts winning twice and with Stokes and Ramsey winning the doubles Buttsbury gained the nine points needed to win the title.  Hutton's win came via Tony Adams who defeated Tofts in four ends but there were a couple of occasions when the odds were stacked against Buttsbury - in the fifth singles Steve Murdoch against Tofts saw Tofts recover from an end deficit to force the tie to a fifth end before winning 6/11, 13/11, 9/11, 11/4, 11/7 and in the eighth game Ramsey had a fright against Adams but just edged home 11/5 in the fifth end - a momentous match for Buttsbury who have been battling away all season in the hope of promotion but with the inclusion of Stokes were able to collect vital points to steal the title from the long term leaders.      A final match for Buttsbury "D" saw them lose 3 - 7 at home to Hutton "B" - with John Jones unable to take his place due to injury it was left to John Newman and Alan Bacon to hold the fort for Buttsbury but they found Mike Pratley in good form and were unable to defeat the visitor although Pratley just edged out Newman from deuce in the fifth and final end  - Newman defeated Roy Barnes and Mike Wares for his two points and Bacon defeated Wares but lost to Barnes - Hutton picked up the doubles for a seventh point.

Week Commencing 14th April 2008                       Brentwood "C" were the home side against Mountnessing "D" and despite Chris Hills, Graham Mann and Frank Porter trying their best they could only muster three points against Bruno Handel, Len Jupe and Suzanne Walker with Walker the unlucky player on the night as she failed to register any points for her team which therefore saw a seven point haul for Handel and Jupe.   In their next fixture Mountnessing "D" introduced John Hickey for a rare outing against Buttsbury "D"  and he duly obliged with  an excellent maximum as did Bruno Handel.  Hickey's win over John Newman saw him recover from a 2 - 1 deficit in ends to collect the final two from deuce 11/6, 6/11, 7/11, 12/10, 12/10 - Alan Bacon and Bill Nutbrown were Buttsbury's remaining players and were pointless in a 9 - 1 defeat for Buttsbury "D"

Week Commencing 7th April 2008                     With the title still not concluded the two teams at the top fought out a terrific battle at Buttsbury "F" with Brentwood Hard "A" on the losing end of a 7 - 3 scoreline.  The home side boasted two unbeaten players - the up and coming David Ramsey who was taken to five ends by Tim Mercer - Ramsey losing the first two ends but coming back strongly to win 9/11, 10/12, 14/12, 11/1, 11/3 but getting the better of both Martin Winter and Greg Cooper in three ends - the name of Buttsbury's other unbeaten player John Stokes sounds very  familiar and if it is the John Stokes of former Brentwood TTC fame then his return to the table is very much welcomed.  Buttsbury's third player Duncan Ramsey was unable to score but put up strong resistance to all three of his opponents.  The seventh point for the home side came in a Stokes/David Ramsey combination in the doubles.        The following week Brentwood Hard "A" were at home to Brentwood "D" and collected a welcome 10 - 0 win over Jon White, Mike Hooks and Richard Denton - the home trio of Martin Winter, Tim Mercer and Greg Cooper were rarely extended.  The same three Brentwood "D" players had a week earlier been beaten in another 10 - 0 scoreline against their visitors Buttsbury "E" - Mike Hooks, Jon White and Richard Denton pulled out all of the stops in a match that saw only one game finishing in three ends but brothers Graham and Paul Sturton and Sam Gilbert were worthy winners and look certain to hold on to third spot.        Hutton "B" in fourth spot gained a 7 - 3 away win at Hutton "D" with Mike Pratley unbeaten and both Norman Feakins and Mike Wares pitching in with two points apiece - they both however were unable to overcome Steve Murdoch who was well worth his two wins although Tony Adams and Joe Bee did their best to offer support but were pointless.  Hutton "D" called up reinforcements in their away match with Writtle "B" and won their first match of the season thanks to an unbeaten performance from Lou Hopkins - Steve Murdoch and Joe Bee both won twice (beaten by Wendy Hibbitt) and with the visitors also winning the doubles it was a welcome scoreline for the hard pressed bottom club. Writtle's team being Wendy Hibbitt, Owen Jordon and Mike Meah.    A week earlier a Hutton "C" Selo team of Richard Hayhoe, Joan Cook and Mike Newman had entertained Writtle "B" and enjoyed a 7 - 3 home win thanks in part to Mike Newman for winning his three singles (over Kevin Barber in five) Hayhoe won twice losing to Martin Goddard (2 wins) in five while Joan Cook (1 win) took three ends to defeat Mike Meah who was pointless.     A changed Hutton "C" Selo team of Richard Hayhoe, Wally Sale and Ron Milbourne found John Newman of Buttsbury "D" in fine form - Newman unbeaten and winning his games in three ends Alan Bacon and Bill Nutbrown both defeated Milbourne but had to give best to both Hayhoe and Sale in a 6 - 4 home win for Buttsbury "D".  Sadly for Brentwood Hard "B" they seem to be having difficulty in fielding a full team but all credit to the two players who have featured recently - John Barns turned in another unbeaten performance and with Len Nicholas collecting one win and the pairing collecting the doubles they gained a second successive two player draw.  This one against Brentwood "C"  - John Benson and Graham Harris winning one game each with Chris Hills not scoring.  Final score 5 - 5.

Week Commencing 24th March 2008                   With the top team having completed their fixtures only Buttsbury "F" can depose them from the top of the table - Buttsbury "F"'s most recent match was a "local derby" against the young players of Buttsbury "E" - classed as the visitors Duncan Ramsey and his son David picked up all seven points in a 7 - 3 away win with Alan Tofts unable to score against brothers Graham and Paul Sturton and Sam Gilbert - the last named coming close to defeating David Ramsey in a five end thriller - Ramsey getting home despite losing the first two ends 6/11, 9/11, 11/7, 11/9, 11/5.    Buttsbury "F" would need to win their final fixture 10 - 0 away at Hutton "B" to take the Divisional crown by one point.          Hutton "B" were themselves 6 - 4 home winners against Hutton "C" Selo with Roy Barnes unbeaten and Ron Grief and Mike Parsons winning one point each but a Barnes Grief combination took the final point in the doubles - for the Hutton Selo team Richard Hayhoe and Mike Newman picked up two wins each with Joan Cook unable to score - being desperately unlucky to lose in five to both Barnes and Grief.                Wendy Hibbitt, Kevin Barber and Michael Meah were 7 - 3 home winners against a two player Mountnessing "D" team of Bruno Handel and Suzanne Walker - Handel defeated both Hibbitt and Meah for two ppoints and Walker also got the better of Hibbitt but the three points conceded meant that they were soundly defeated.               Another match in which the visiting team could only field two players involved Brentwood "D" of Mike Hooks, Jon White and Frank Porter against the Brentwood Hard "B" team of John Barns and Len Nicholas - the final score a 5 - 5 draw with Barns of Brentwood Hard claiming an excellent treble, Nicholas gaining one win over Porter and the pairing of Barns and Nicholas claiming a fifth point against Hooks and White in the doubles./

Week Commencing 24th March 2008                      Hutton "D" entertained a two player Brentwood Hard "B" team of John Barns and Len Nicholas and perhaps somewhat fortunate to record a draw - thanks to Steve Murdoch with two points (a win in three over Nicholas) and the three points conceded by the absence of a third visitor. - Joe Bee and Tony Adams were the home side's other two players and picked up the fifth point with a win in the doubles.       The same three Hutton "D" players travelled to the Brentwood Hard "A" venue at Childerditch and were soundly beaten 10 - 0 with Martin Winter, Greg Cooper and Tim Mercer gaining the necessary points that will ensure that they will finish in the top two and most likely as champions.                  Brentwood Hard "B" were unable to field a team against Buttsbury "D" in their home match on the 8th March and conceded the fixture thus giving the visitors a 10 - 0 win.                          Buttsbury "D" themselves were unable to complete a team in their home match with Brentwood "C" which resulted in a 6 - 4 win for the visitors  - John Newman winning twice but losing to a committed John Benson who also won his other game on the table against Alan Bacon - Graham Harris pitched in with two points (a win over Newman and a conceded point) while David Kennard recorded one point with the concession from Buttsbury - the home side took the doubles to collect the extra point and take them to a respectable score despite only having two players.

Week Commencing 17th March 2008                               Brentwood "D" gained a 5 - 5 draw against bottom team Hutton "D" thanks to a maximum from Jon White who defeated Steve Murdoch (2 wins), Tony Adams (1 win) and Joe Bee (2 wins) in comfortable fashion but his remaining team mates Graham Mann and Richard Denton found the going much tougher with  Mann picking up one win and Denton pointless although losing to both Adams 12/14, 11/4, 7/11, 11/6, 14/16 and Bee 8/11, 11/9, 10/12, 11/7. 9/11            A "local" derby at Brentwood with the "C" team of  David Kennard, John Benson and Graham Harris up against the "D" team of Jon White, Graham Mann and Richard Denton with the result a 6 - 4 win for the "C" team.   Benson was undefeated and rarely troubled but Harris had to work much harder for his maximum as all three of his opponents took ends from him - White and Mann defeated in five and Denton in four.         A late result card in from Buttsbury "F" (4th February) gave the home side a 9 - 1 home win over Brentwood "D" - both David and Duncan Ramsey undefeated and Alan Tofts winning twice - his loss coming at the hands of Jon White for Brentwood's only point - Mike Hooks and Frank Porter being the visitors other two players.  Buttsbury "F" also recorded a 10 - 0 home win in a match on 26th February against Brentwood Hard "B" - David and Duncan Ramsey and John Stokes were unbeaten against Paul Draper, John Barns and Len Nicholas with none of the ties going to a fifth end.              Buttsbury "E" gained seven points in a 7 - 3 home win over Hutton "C" Selo - Graham Sturton was denied his maximum by Richard Hayhoe in five who in turn lost his maximum opportunity to Paul Sturton again in five - Paul losing to Wally Sale in five to prevent himself remaining unbeaten - so four players picked up two wins and Sale one with the doubles going to the home side - Ron Milbourn was the visitors third player with Sam Gilbert notching up two more points for Buttsbury "E".    Another eight points came the way of Buttsbury "E" when they travelled the short distance to Hutton "D" - in this match they included Davey Crook for Sam Gilbert - both Graham and Paul Sturton were unbeaten with Crook recording one win over Tony Adams but Steve Murdoch and Joe Bee were able to get the better of Crook to give Hutton two points.               Hutton "C" Selo were at home to leaders Brentwood Hard "A" and found themselves on the wrong end of a 7 - 3 scoreline - Greg Cooper found the winning line three times, Mike Harris twice and Nick Wright once with Mike Newman for the home side recording two wins and Wally Sale one win (over Wright)- Joan Cook being pointless for Hutton "C" Selo - the visitors collected another valuable point by taking the doubles in five ends.

Week Commencing 10th March 2008                       Writtle "B" collected points in a 7 - 3 home win over Buttsbury "D" with Kevin Barber undefeated and Martin Goddard and Wendy Hibbitt both winning two games - their defeats coming at the hands of John Newman who narrowly lost to Barber 11/5, 5/11, 11/13, 11/5, 11/13 - John Jones and Alan Bacon provided stiff opposition to the home players but were unable to score despite taking opponents to five ends.        The following week Writtle "B" travelled to Brentwood "C" and came up against a determined John Benson who was undefeated, Graham Harris picked up two wins with David Kennard unable to score - for Writtle Martin Goddard was again their best player with two wins with Barber and Hibbitt claiming one win apiece.          Hutton "B" entertained Brentwood "C" and carved out a 7 - 3 home win with Roy Barnes in excellent three ends only form, Norman Feakins won twice with Mike Wares winning once but once again the mainstay of Brentwood's reply came via John Benson who defeated both Feakins and Wares in three, David Kennard picked up a win over Wares with Chris Hills unable to score.        A slightly changed Hutton "B" team then travelled to Mountnessing "D" and ended up with a 6 - 4 away win thanks to Mike Pratley being undefeated and being well supported by both Norman Feakins with two wins and Ron Grief with one win - John Hickey was Mountnessing's best player with two wins followed by one win for Len Jupe and Suzanne Walker being pointless.

Week Commencing 3rd March 2008                            Brentwood "D" suffered a 4 - 6 home defeat at the hands of Mountnessing "D" who had Bruno Handel displaying excellent form and returning a maximum, Len Jupe came in with two wins with Suzanne Walker unable to score.  For the home side Jon White was the main point scorer with two wins and Graham Mann and Frank Porter both gained one win.  The visitors final point came in the doubles.     The leaders of the Division Brentwood Hard "A" were awarded a 10 - 0 walk over against Mountnessing "D" in a game that almost certainly ensures their promotion to the First Division.

Week Commencing 25th February 2008                    Brentwood Hard "A" enjoyed a 10 - 0 romp away at Brentwood "C" with Martin Winter, Tim Mercer and Greg Cooper all unbeaten - generally the only response from the home side came from John Benson who lost to Cooper and Mercer in four and to Winter in five - David Kennard and Chris Hills battled hard but were no match for the probable Divisional winners.           A much changed Brentwood Hard "A" team had a week earlier picked up an 8 - 2 home win over Buttsbury "D" with Greg Cooper in commanding form and supported by Nick Wright and Mike Harris with two wins each the visitors fielded two eligible players in John Newman (2 wins) and Alan Bacon with their third player ineligible.          Roy Barnes and Mike Pratley who were both unbeaten for Hutton "B" were predominant in their home match with Writtle "B" - Hutton's third player also played his part with two wins so with a final score of 9 - 1 it was left to the visitors Martin Goddard to claim the visitors point with Kevin Barber and Owen Jordan unable to score.                       Mountnessing "D" sank to a 3 - 7 defeat to Buttsbury "E" in a match in which they could only field John Hickey and Len Jupe - Hickey picked up two wins - over Graham Sturton and Sam Gilbert but was denied any chance of a maximum in his first match on by losing to Paul Sturton - a five end doubles win gave the home side their third point.     Another two player team Brentwood "D" travelled to Hutton "C" Selo and went down 9 - 1 to Richard Hayhoe, Wally Sale and Mike Newman - with the visitors only point coming from a win for Mike Hooks over Newman in five 7/11, 11/7, 11/5, 8/11, 11/8 - Richard Denton being Brentwood's third player.                 Yet a third team that could only feature two players - Brentwood Hard "A" would possibly have won their match with Writtle "B" as John Barns was unbeaten and Len Nicholas gained two wins for a 5 - 5 draw.  With three points in the bag from the non appearance it was left to Martin Goddard to claim Writtle's first played point with a win over Nicholas - Goddard having dropped a two end lead against Barns to lose in five - but the visitors final point came in the doubles with a five end win for the visitors.

Week Commencing 18th February 2008                     Mountnessing "D" could only field two players in their home match with Buttsbury "F" and were beaten 10 - 0 by Duncan and David Ramsey and Alan Tofts - Bruno Handel took both father and son Ramsey to four and was a shade unlucky to lose to Tofts in five whilst Suzanne Walker found the high flying team from Buttsbury a shade too strong.         Buttsbury "D" were at home to their club colleagues Buttsbury "E" and were on the wrong end of an 8 - 2 score.  Graham Sturton led the way for the "E" team with a maximum - only just squeezing home against John Newman 8/11, 11/4, 11/9, 11/13, 11/9 - both Bill Nutbrown and Alan Bacon did their best against the remaining two "E" team players Paul Sturton and Davey Crook but asise from picking up ends they were unable to get any points on the board.            Hutton "C" Selo picked up a 9 - 1 home win over Hutton "D" with John Mulley and Mike Newman unbeaten and Wally Sale winning twice - Sale being beaten by Steve Murdoch - Tony Adams and Joe Bee were the "D" team's other two players.

Week Commencing 11th February 2008                     With a full strength side out the leaders Brentwood Hard "A" were too strong for Writtle "B" - the home team of Wendy Hibbitt and Mike Meah (2 players only) were unable to match Martin Winter, Greg Cooper and Nick Wright and were defeated 1 - 9 with only a Hibbitt win over Wright in four to show for their efforts.            Another two player match saw Brentwood Hard "B" on the losing side against a strong Hutton "B" trio of Mike Pratley, Roy Barnes and Mike Wares - final score 3 - 7 to the visitors Hutton - John Barns weighed in for the tennis club with two wins - an excellent win in five over Roy Barnes and a win in three against Mike Wares - Barns third game against Pratley resulted in a five end win for the visitor but not without a tremendous battle between the two with scores of 11/9, 11/9, 8/11, 8/11, 11/13 (win for Pratley) - the final score 7 - 3to the visitors - Pratley 3 points, Barnes 2 points and Wares 1 point.     Buttsbury "E" are still chasing the top two places and their 8 - 2home win over Writtle "B" keeps them in contention should there be any slip up by the leading two.  Sam Gilbert was unbeaten against Writtle "B" with both Graham and Paul Sturton collecting two wins each - both losing to Francis Whitbread - Kevin Barber and Martin Goddard were Writtle's other two players and both unable to score.        Second placed Buttsbury "F" meanwhile gained a convincing 9 - 1 home win over Brentwood "C" - father and son Duncan and David Ramsey were both unbeaten with Duncan being hard pushed in five enders against both John Benson and Graham Harris - Alan Tofts gave fine support with two wins and barring any accidents Buttsbury "F" look certain to gain promotion to the First Division.        Paul Draper made a rare and welcome appearance for Brentwood Hard "B" in their away fixture with Hutton "C" Selo and gave a commanding performance with three wins over Richard Hayhoe (in five 10/12, 13/11, 11/7, 2/11, 11/8), Mike Newman and Joan Cook - John Barns pitched in with two wins - losing to Hayhoe in three but new signing Stuart Selby found the going somewhat tougher than expected and having just returned to table tennis after being out for a number of years was unfortunately unable to score.

Week Commencing 4th February 2008                          Top of the table Brentwood Hard "A" were only able to scramble a 5 - 5 draw at home to Hutton "B" and had Martin Winter to thank for three of the points with Greg Cooper collecting the other two - Martin's son Jake Winter was the third home player but pointless.  For Hutton Mike Pratley won twice and then teamed up with Ron Grief to take the doubles.  Grief and Joe Bee with wins over the young Jake Winter picked up the other two points.           John Benson and Graham Harris were in excellent form in Brentwood "C" s home match with Hutton "D" - both recorded maximums in a 7 - 3  home win but their third player David Kennard was unable to score - in a commfortable match against Steve Murdoch, Tony Adams and Joe Bee there were no five end encounters to contend with.            Buttsbury "D" of John Newman, Bill Nutbrown and Alan Bacon all recorded wins over their club colleague Peter Vella of Buttsbury "F" but Duncan Ramsey and son David Ramsey came to the rescue with unbeaten performances in another match in which there were no five end games. Buttsbury "F" recording a 7 - 3 win that keeps them firmly in contention for promotion.          The same Buttsbury "D" trio of John Newman (2 wins), Alan Bacon (1 win) and Bill Nutbrown were on the losing end of a 7 - 3 scoreline in their away match with Brentwood "D" - Jon White performed admirably for three wins with Mike Hooks picking up two, losing to Newman in five but defeating Bacon in five - Hooks, White and Graham Mann all defeated Nutbrown with Hooks and White taking the doubles over Newmman and Nutbrown.          Writtle "B" also had to contend with the Brentwood "D" team but a week earlier - the home side of Wendy Hibbitt, Owen Jordan and Michael Meah were unable to contain the visiting trio of Mike Hooks (3 wins), Jon White (2 wins) and Richard Denton (2 wins) and were losers to the tune of 2 - 8.  Wenndy Hibbitt's win over Jon White being the pick of the matches - earning victory 11/13, 12/10, 9/11, 11/6, 13/11.

Week Commencing 28th January 2008                          Pushing themselves clear at the top are Brentwood Hard "A" who picked up a welcome 8 - 2 win over their club colleagues Brentwood Hard "B" who could only field two players.  Martin Winter and Greg Cooper were responsible for seven of their sides points with son Jake Winter picking up one conceded point.  John Barnes ran both Cooper and Winter close forcing his encounter with the "A" team captain into a fifth end despite losing the first two ends.  Both he and Len Nicholas took Cooper to four ends but their resistance ended at that stage.           Another 8 - 2 win saw Hutton "C" Selo claim victory in their away match with Mountnessing "D" - Richard Hayhoe is having a fine season and weighed in with another maximum with Wally Sale and Mike Newman both winning twice - defeat coming at the hands of Bruno Handel for the home team's two points.  Suzanne Walker and Larry Bohosee picked up ends against their opponents but were pointless on the night.            Roy Barnes was another unbeaten player in a Hutton "B" away match at Brentwood Hard "B" - with only Paul Draper and John Barnes to call on the tennis club did well to pick up four points in a 6 - 4 defeat - with a third player on call they might well have claimed a second win of the season - both Norman Feakins and Ron Grief were losers to the home players and with the doubles going to Barnes and Feakins a 6 - 4 away win was perhaps a little fortunate.                Hutton "B" enjoyed a 7 - 3 home derby win over Hutton "D" - Mike Pratley was the third Hutton player to record a maximum following in the footsteps of Roy Barnes and Richard Hayhoe and he was ably supported by Mike Parsons with two wins and Mike Wares with one win - for the "D" team Steve Murdoch collected two singles and Joe Bee one with a win over Wares.  Tony Adams was the "D" teams third player but unable to add any points to his teams tally of three points.

Week Commencing 21st January 2008                             Hutton "B" recorded an 8 - 2 away win at Brentwood "D" with both Mike Pratley and Roy Barnes undefeated and combining to take the doubles - Ron Grief was Hutton's third player and picked up a point with a three end win over Graham Mann - John White and Richard Denton claimed Brentwood's two points with a win each over Grief.              Hutton "C" Selo collected a 7 - 3 home win over Brentwood "C" and might consider themselves a shade lucky for their total haul of seven points as Graham Harris (1 win) had three five end battles with his opponents - beating Mike Newman  9/11, 10/12, 11/7, 11/5, 13/11 but losing in five to Richard Hayhoe (unbeaten) 6/11, 7/11, 11/6, 11/8, 7/11 and to Wally Sale (2 wins)  6/11, 11/9, 11/8, 6/11, 7/11.  John Benson (2 wins) also had his share of five end contests - losing to Hayhoe but defeating Sale - Brentwood's third player was the unfortunate Chris Hills who was unable to score.      A 5 - 5 draw was the final outcome between Hutton "D" and Buttsbury "D" - no one player could find three wins on the night - for Hutton - Steve Murdoch won twice with victories over John Newman (in four) and Bill Nutbrown (in five) but lost to Alan Bacon in four.  Tony Adams also won twice defeating Nutbrown (in three)  and Bacon (in four) while Joe Bee picked up one point with a win over Bacon in four.

Week Commencing 14th January 2008 Brentwood Hard "A" remain at the top of the Division thanks to a 9 - 1 away win at Buttsbury "E" - Tim Mercer and Greg Cooper were unbeaten with Martin Winter the sole loser to Graham Sturton in four ends.   Good performances by the home team despite the heavy scoreline - Sam Gilbert and Paul Sturton losing in five ends to opponents and taking others to four ends with Graham Sturton also showing up well.          It was a family affair for second placed Buttsbury "F" with the Ramsey pairing of David and Duncan claiming all seven points against a Writtle "B" team of Kevin Barber, Martin Goddard and Owen Jordan - with the Ramsey's taking their games all three straight and the doubles in five it was left to the unfortunate Alan Tofts to remain scoreless despite taking each of his opponents to four ends.

Week Commencing 17th December 2007                                  With only two players the writing was on the wall for Brentwood "D" in their away match at Mountnessing "D" with Mike Hooks and Richard Denton unable to collect more than one point in a 1 - 9 defeat thanks to a win for Hooks over Suzanne Walker - Hooks had also claimed a two end lead over Bruno Handel but finally succumbed 12/10, 11/9, 3/11, 8/11, 11/7  while John Hickey was also forced to five ends by both of his opponents - defeating Denton 11/8 in the fifth and Hooks 11/6 in the fifth.  Final result 9 - 1 to Mountnessing "D".

Week Commencing 10th December 2007                         A somewhat lonely Len Nicholas ploughed a lone furrow for Brentwood Hard "B" in their home match with Buttsbury "E" but for whatever reason Nicholas was the only opponent for Graham Sturton, Paul; Sturton and Sam Gilbert and it was an early night all round with Nicholas taking on his opponents and taking an end from each before recording a team victory to Buttsbury 9 - 1 - Nicholas defeating Paul Sturton in four.       Brentwood Hard "A" took over at the top of the table by just one point with an 8 - 2 away win at Brentwood "D" - their two main players were Martin Winter and Tim Mercer who were both unbeaten with Mike Harris winning one point  and the visitors taking the vital eighth point in the doubles.   Mike Hooks and Richard Denton both mannaged to defeat Harris but Graham Mann just failed to notch up another win for Brentwood when losing to Harris in five.       Hutton "D" were heavy losers at home to Writtle "B" with Joe Bee, Tony Adams and Alan Lovell no match for Martin Goddard, Wendy Hibbitt and Kevin Barber - four of the games went to four ends but the remainder were all completed in three ends.               Buttsbury "F" gained a 6 - 4 home win over Hutton "B" who called on late replacements for their regular players.  Duncan Ramsey was unbeaten for the home side - claiming a fine five end win over Mike Pratley 6/11, 11/6, 11/9, 9/11, 11/9 - Pratley defeating both of his other opponents Alan Tofts and Peter Vella - Vella losing to Joe Bee in his final singles but all three of the home team got the better of Hutton's third man Mike Wares.  Hutton took the doubles to win a fourth point.

Week Commencing 3rd December 2007                               With no result cards in for the two leading teams it was left to Buttsbury "E" to make a push for the top gaining a superb 10 - 0 home win for brothers Graham and Paul Sturton and Sam Gilbert - the visitors of Brentwood "D" however were not outclassed despite the big score with Jon White taking all three Buttsbury players to five ends, Richard Denton got into the five end act with Paul Sturton and Graham Mann losing two of his games in four.             A 6 - 4 home win for Hutton "C" Selo thanks to a doubles win for Wally Sale and Mike Newman over their opponents Buttsbury "D" - both Sale and Newman defeated Alan Bacon and Bill Nutbrown (1 win) with Joan Cook also defeating Bacon - but Buttsbury must be thankful that John Newman was in top form as he remained unbeaten despite having a cliff hanger with Sale before winning 9/11, 11/9, 5/11, 11/8, 17/15.

Week Commencing 26th November 2007                   Buttsbury "F" continue to head the Division but are being put under pressure by Brentwood Hard "A" who are just one point behind.  The two team met at the tennis club and the home side collected a welcome 8 - 2 win with Greg Cooper undefeated and Martin Winter and Tim Mercer winning two games each - for the visitors Buttsbury "F" David Ramsey was their points scorer by winning two singles - Duncan Ramsey and Alan Tofts were both unable to score.    Brentwood Hard "A" had, a week earlier gained a 7 - 3 away win at Hutton "D" thanks to maximums for Martin Winter and Mike Harris - Martin's young son Jake was Brentwood Hard's third player and lost to all three of his opponents Steve Murdock, Tony Adams and Alan Lovell.            Another player to remain undefeated and therefore instrumental in his side's 6 - 4 win was John Newman of Buttsbury "D" in their match with Mountnessing "D" - he needed five ends in the first singles to overcome John Hickey and in his final singles took four ends to defeat Bruno Handel - both Hickey and Handel recorded wins over Bill Nutbrown and Alan Bacon with Mountnessing's third player Suzanne Walker losing all three.       Hutton "C" Selo had mixed fortunes in their latest two fixtures - at "home" to Hutton "B" they were on the wrong end of a 6 - 4 scoreline with Richard Hayhoe winning twice and Michael Newman and Joan Cook winning one point each - all three defeating Mike Wares, Hayhoe's second win coming against Roy Barnes who won twice- Hutton's chief destroyer was the unbeaten Mike Pratley who needed five ends to defeat Hayhoe and four ends to defeat Newman, he then combined with Barnes to take the doubles in four.         A week later Hutton "C" Selo travelled to Writtle "B" and gained a 7 - 3 victory with a slightly different line-up, Richard Hayhoe was unbeaten, Wally Sale winning twice and Ron Milbourn  picking up one point with the combination of Hayhoe & Sale claiming the seventh point in the doubles.  For the home team Wendy Hibbitt won twice, Kevin Barber once and Michael Meah pointless.     Brentwood "C" despite recording a 6 -4home win were unable to press home their advantage against a  Brentwood Hard "B" team who could only field two players - John Benson won both of his games to record three points, Chris Hill had a win over Len Nicholas and therefore recorded two points while Frank Porter was beaten by both John Barnes and Nicholas but still recorded his walk over

Week Commencing 19th November 2007                                  Buttsbury "F" picked up a welcome 17 points in their latest two matches - at home to their Buttsbury "E" team they proved far too good for the young trio of Graham Sturton (1 win), Paul Sturton and Sam Gilbert (1 win) and ran out winners 8 - 2 - David Ramsey was unbeaten and both Duncan Ramsey and Alan Tofts collected two wins apiece - Duncan Ramsey giving best to Graham Sturton in five ends and Tofts losing to Gilbert in four ends.  Graham Sturton will feel slightly unlucky to only collect one point as he lost to both Tofts and David Ramsey in five.         Buttsbury "F" followed up with a 9 - 1 away win at Brentwood "D" with father and son Duncan and David Ramsey both unbeaten and Alan Tofts losing out to Jon White to save Brentwood's whitewash.  None of the games went to five ends with Brentwood's other two players Richard Denton and Graham Mann unable to score.      Brentwood "C" took a 7 - 3 home win over Buttsbury "D" thanks to a seven point contribution from Stan Kenner and John Benson both unbeaten and combining to take the doubles - David Kennard being pointless.  For the visitors Bill Nutbrown, John Newman and Alan Bacon  all defeated the luckless Kennard.                  John Benson played a captain's part the following match and remained undefeated in a 5 - 5 away draw at Writtle "B" - his two colleagues each recorded one win - Graham Harris over Wendy Hibbitt and David Kennard over Owen Jordan - Martin Goddard was Writtle's best player with two wins and then taking a share of the doubles.       Writtle "B" were then on the wrong end of a 6 - 4 scoreline in an away match at Mountnessing "D" - John Hickey played supremely well being extended only in one end by Owen Jordan - Larry Bohosee added two points to Mountnessing's total and then had a share in the doubles with Hickey - Suzanne Walker was somewhat unfortunate not to defeat Jordan (1 win) having taken her opponent to five ends - and with Walker also losing to Wendy Hibbitt (1 win) and Martin Goddard (2 wins)

Week Commencing 12th November 2007                               Brentwood Hard "A" hold top spot and enjoyed a 6 - 4 away win at Mountnessing "D" - their three players Nick Wright, Mike Harris and Greg Cooper all collected two wins with Cooper giving best to Larry Bohosee in five ends 11/6, 11/6, 10/12, 7/11, 10/12 for Bohosee's one win of the match, Bruno Handel won two points for Mountnessing with wins over Wright and Harris while their third player Suzanne Walker was unable to score.      A week later the Mountnessing "D" team of Bruno Handel, Suzanne Walker and Len Jupe experienced another 6 - 4 reverse - on this occasion to Hutton "B" who picked up the six points with two wins each for Mike Pratley and Roy Barnes and one win for Norman Feakins with the doubles giving Hutton their sixth point.

Week Commencing 5th November 2007                            Buttsbury "D" were on the wrong end of a 6 - 4 scoreline in their home match with Writtle "B" - John Newman, John Jones and Bill Nutbrown were only able to defeat the luckless Mike Meare for three of their points but were on the losing end against Francis Whitbread and Martin Goddard - Newman and Nutbrown forcing Goddard into a fifth end - final score 6 - 4 to Writtle "B"      Buttsbury "D" followed up with a 5 - 5 draw against Brentwood Hard "B" - John Newman won all three  (all in four ends) with Bill Nutbrown (1 win) defeating Paul Draper (1  win) in four but losing to John Barns (2 wins) and Len Nicholas (2 win) in five - his game with Nicholas 12/10, 5/11, 11/3, 12/14, 14/16.  Alan Bacon was Buttsbury's third player taking several ends to deuce but unable to cross the finishing line.          An 8 - 2 home win for the young players of Buttsbury "E" over the slightly more experienced team of Hutton "D" with only Steve Murdock claiming a singles win for Hutton with a win over Davey Crook - Crook won his other two games against Joe Bee and Alan Lovell both in four ends - Sam Gilbert and Paul Sturton nothched up trebles in fairly easy fashion - the wily visitors however took the doubles in five.      Hutton "D" had a week earlier gained a 5 - 5 draw against Brentwood "D" and had Steve Murdock to thank for an unbeaten performance all taken in three - Joe Bee gained another point by defeating Mike Hooks in five 11/8, 7/11, 11/2, 7/11, 12/10 - Jon White and Graham Mann both collected two wins with victories over Tony Adams and Bee but Murdock and Bee took the doubles for a worthy draw.     A week earlier the Brentwood "D" team had gained a 7 - 3 home win over Hutton "C" Selo with all three of their players winning twice defeating Joan Cook and Ron Milbourn - none of the home team could master Hutton's Richard Hayhoe however who was undefeated.   Two more reports on Brentwood Hard "B" - in the first away at Writtle "B" they could only muster two players John Barnes and Len Nicholas against Wendy Hibbitt, Kevin Barber and Michael Meah - Barnes and Nicholas both defeating Hibbitt and Meah for Brentwood's four points - the doubles went to five ends which saw Writtle come out on top 11/13, 11/8, 8/11, 11/9, 11/4.       The following week Brentwood Hard "B" were at home to table topping Buttsbury "F" and were defeated 7 - 3 by the visitors - John Barnes gained two wins , with Paul Draper one win and Len Nicholas pointless but Duncan Ramsey gained an excellent maximum, David Ramsey won twice losing to Barnes and Alan Tofts got the better of Nicholas - the visitors seventh point came via a five end doubles win 9/11, 11/7, 6/11, 14/12, 11/9.         Buttsbury "E" and Mountnessing "D" fought out a 5 - 5 draw with Bruno Handel unbeaten for the visitors and well supported by John Hickey, Suzanne Walker pointless.  Sam Gilbert was on the mark for two wins with brothers Graham and Paul Sturton picking up a point each against Walker - another five end doubles encounter favoured the home side for their fifth point.            Brentwood Hard "A" closed the gap at the top with an 8 - 2 home win over Hutton "C" Selo- Greg Cooper was in excellent form with three wins, Martin Winter and Tim Mercer both fell to Richard Hayhoe who scored Hutton's only points.  Wally Sale and Ron Milbourn were Hutton "C" Selo's other two players.

Week Commencing 29th October 2007                          Hutton "B" collected a 7 - 3 home win over Buttsbury "D" thanks to maximums from Roy Barnes and Ron Grief who then combined to take the doubles in four - Mike Wares had close games with John Newman, John Jones and Alan Bacon but failed to score - Barnes was in excellent form, taking his wins in three ends while Grief had to settle for four end wins over Jones and Bacon and a five end win over Newman.                Buttsbury "E" of Graham Sturton, Paul Sturton and Sam Gilbert had to contend with the varying styles of Mountnessing "D"'s trio of Bruno Handel, John Hickey and newcomer Suzanne Walker and managed to gain a 5 - 5 draw.

Week Commencing 22nd October 2007                           Buttsbury "F" hold the lead in the Division and their latest victory -  9 - 1 home win over Hutton "D" was thanks to Duncan Ramsey and son David Ramsey who were both unbeaten and Alan Tofts with two wins.  Joe Bee, Alan Lovell and Tony Adams gave their all as usual but could only muster one point via a win for Adams over Tofts - there were no "five enders" but a number of four end encounters but Hutton could not collect more than the one point.        Second placed Brentwood Hard "A" gained two wins and 15 points in their two reports - away at Buttsbury "D" they had Martin Winter to thank for three of the points - Winter being taken close by John Newman in the final match of the evening - Tim Mercer picked up two points for the visitors but lost to Newmman - Martin Winter's son Jake gained valuable experience but failed to register any points so it remmained for Winter and Mercer to collect the sixth point by taking the doubles over Newman and Alan Bacon - Bill Nutbrown was Buttsbury's third player and like Bacon registered one win.       Brentwood Hard "A" followed up this victory with a 9- 1 home win over Brentwood "C" and for this match they changed two players - bringing in Nick Wright and Greg Cooper along with Martin Winter - the home trio sailed through the games with John Benson scoring the only point for Brentwood with a win over Wright - Graham Harris and Mike Hooks tried in vain for points but were up against a team that will probably finish in the top two and return to the First Division.            Buttsbury "F" were successful in their away match with Hutton "C" Selo and ran out winners 6 - 4 over Richard Hayhoe, Mike Newman and Joan Cook - the visitors had to rely mainly on David Ramsey who performed admirably for an excellent maximum, Alan Tofts pulled off two wins - coming from behind to defeat Mike Newman in five 11/13, 10/12, 11/7, 12/10, 11/5 but losing to Hayhoe in four - the third Buttsbury player Peter Vella was unable to score although putting up an excellent performance against Cook - just losing out 10/12, 11/8, 12/10, 3/11, 7/11.

Week Commencing 15th October 2007                                Hutton "D" could only collect two points in their most recent matches - at home to Hutton "C" Selo they were soundly beaten 10 - 0 by their opponents Alan Lovell, Dave Woodcock and Tony Adams were unable to collect any wins for their efforts and against Joan Cook in particular they all took Cook to five ends before losing - Woodcock also did likewise against Wally Sale but the third visitor Richard Hayhoe was fairly comfortable in taking his three points.         Hutton "D" were then away to Brentwood Hard "B" and the home side enjoyed a fine evening's table tennis with an 8 - 2 victory over Joe Bee, Alan Lovell and Steve Murdock who collected the visitors only singles win by defeating Len Nicholas - Paul Draper and John Barnes were the home sides unbeaten players but could not prevent the visitors taking the doubles.               Buttsbury "E" could only field two players Paul Sturton and Sam Gilbert when they visited Brentwood "C" but still managed to come away with an excellent 5 - 5 draw - John Benson was responsible for Brentwood claiming five points as he defeated both of the visitors in five ends - his match against Sturton being extremely close 11/9, 11/13, 7/11, 11/9, 12/10 but both David Kennard and Graham Harris were unable to score and in the final analysis Brentwood will be happy with the five points gained - three for the absent player and two from Benson.                       Writtle "B" were defeated 3 - 7 at home by Hutton "B" who had Mike Pratley unbeaten and both Mike Wares and Norman Feakins winning two each - for the home side Wendy Hibbitt played exceedingly well to win twice but Owen Jordan and Mike Meah were unable to score in a match in which only the doubles and one singles went to five ends

Week Commencing 8th October 2007                                     Brentwood "D" handed their "C" team a 6 - 4 defeat at Tipps Cross with Mike Hooks undefeated and well supported by Richard Denton with two wins and Graham Mann with one win - Graham Harris was the "C" team's most successful player picking up two wins while losing his third to Hooks in four ends.  Chris Hills gained one win and along with Harris picked up a vital point with a four end doubles win over Denton/Mann.  David Kennard was the only player in the match to miss out on the points.          With only two players Greg Cooper and Nick Wright of Brentwood Hard "A" did  well in holding their visitors Writtle "B" to a 5 - 5 draw.  Cooper was undefeated against Martin Goddard, Kevin Barber and Mike Meare and with Wright defeating Meare and then pairing up with Cooper to win the doubles one could say that the home side just about deserved their draw.

Week Commencing 1st October 2007                       Buttsbury "F" - David Ramsey, Duncan Ramsey and Peter Vella found Mountnessing "D"'s John Hickey in excellent form unbeaten and helping his team to record a 5 - 5 draw with only David Ramsey getting close to beating him - losing in five ends 11/8, 8/11, 11/8, 8/11, 9/11 - Paul Singleton and Len Jupe also recorded wins over Vella but the home side took the doubles to ensure the spoils were shared.         Another Buttsbury Derby match between the "E" and the "D" teams saw Sam Gilbert record an unbeaten performance and supported by Graham Sturton with two wins  who lost to John Newman (2 wins)  - Davey Crook lost all three but was just outsmarted in the fifth end against Alan Bacon who recorded one win - Bill Nutbrown also beat Crook but with the "E" team taking the doubles they recorded a 6 - 4 home win.

Week Commencing 24th September 2007                         Mike Hooks was unbeaten for Brentwood "D" at home against Writtle "B" and recorded a 6- 4 home win with Jon White winning twice and Richard Denton winning one point - Martin Goddard was the home teams best player with two wins, Kevin Barber one win over Denton and Mike Meah unable to score.      A match between two Buttsbury teams saw the "F" team get the better of the "D" team in an 8 - 2 victory - Duncan Ramsey was unbeaten, son David and Alan Tofts won two each - for the "D" teams two points Bill Nutbrown defeated Tofts in five and John Newman beat David Ramsey while Alan Bacon was pointless.       Mountnessing "D" posted a 9 - 1 home win over Hutton "D" with John Hickey and Len Jupe unbeaten and Larry Bohosee winning twice - the only success for Hutton coming with a win for Steve Murdock with Joe Bee and Alan Lovell pointless.       Brentwood "C" could only manage one win in their home match with Buttsbury "F" thanks to a Graham Harris success over Alan Tofts - both Duncan Ramsey and David Ramsey recorded maximums against the other Brentwood players of Chris Hills and David Kennard.         Tony Adams won twice for Hutton "D" in their 7 - 3 defeat at home to Brentwood "C" with Joe Bee collecting the other point and Alan Lovell out of luck - for the visitors Graham Harris was unbeaten, Chris Hills won twice and David Kennard once.        Hutton "B" conceded their match with Brentwood Hard "A".           A two man Hutton "B" team had earlier forced a draw despite only having two players.  Their away match at Buttsbury "E" saw Mike Pratley unbeaten, Ron Grief winning once and the pairing taking the doubles.  Sam Gilbert and Paul Sturton won one each and Graham Sturton failing to score.            Martin Goddard and Wendy Hibbitt were the Writtle's "B" teams only points scorers in their home match with Buttsbury "E" - their third player Owen Jordan taking a two end lead over Graham Sturton but failing to force home his advantage.  Graham Sturton and Sam Gilbert were both unbeaten with Paul Sturton winning one point - the doubles also going to the visitors.        Buttsbury "D" picked up a valuable 6 points in their 6 - 4 home win over Brentwood "D" - John Newman was again unbeaten getting the better of Jon White in the final singles of the evening despite losing the first two ends - John Jones and Alan Bacon both defeated Graham Mann but losing to Richard Dennton.         A two player Brentwood Hard "B" found the going tough against Hutton "C" Selo and although both John Barns (2 wins) and Len Nicholas (1 win) fought well the handicap of giving points away was too much and they went under 7 - 3 to Wally Sale (3 points), Mike Newman (2 points) and Joan Cook (1 point) - a five end doubles win for the visitors ensured they took home 7 points.

Week Commencing 17th September 2007                              Brentwood Hard "B" faced their club's "A" team with only two players and had an uphill task before the match started - Not surprisingly the "A" team triumphed with Martin Winter unbeaten and Nick Wright and Greg Cooper winning one each plus three conceded and the doubles took the final score to 8 - 2 in favour of the "A" team.  John Barns picking up both of the "B" team's points with Nick Walker unable to score.                 Another big victory, this one for Hutton "C" Selo 9 - 1 against Mountnessing "D" - Richard Hayhoe, Wally Sale and Mike Newman taking almost all of the points on offer with the exception of the singles win for the visitors Bruno Handel over Newman , Len Jupe and Paul Singleton unable to score.

Week Commencing 3rd September 2007                                          Mountnessing "D" kicked off their season in fine style with a 9 - 1 home win over Brentwood Hard "B" - the home side had John Hickey and Bruno Handel collecting maximums with Joan Donovan winning twice and coupled with a doubles win for Hickey & Handel they took the majority of points - for the visitors John Barns claimed their only point but was a trifle unfortunate to lose to Hande in five - the final end 13/11 in favour of Handel.  Nick Walker and Len Nicholas were the tennis club's other two players.        Hutton "B" gave notice of intent this season with a 9 - 1 home win over Brentwood "D" - both Mike Pratley and Ron Grief were unbeaten with Norman Feakins winning twice - just missing out on a maximum by losing to Jon White in five ends - Mike Hooks and David Kennard were Brentwood's other players and both unable to score.            Brentwood Hard "A" were at home to Buttsbury "E" and had Martin Winter to thank for a winning performance in their 5 - 5 draw - Mike Harris picked up two points but Martin's son Jake gained vital experience but failed to score against Sam Gilbert who won twice, Graham Sturton and Paul Sturton who picked up a point each.                   The first 10 - 0 of the season goes to Buttsbury "F" who travelled to Paradise Road for a fixture against Writtle "B" - Wendy Hibbitt, Kevin Barber and Owen Jordan found Duncan and David Ramsey and Alan Tofts in superb form running out easy winners.              New signing John Newmman was instrumental in Buttsbury "D" recording a 6 - 4 home win over Hutton "S" - John was unbeaten and with both Bill Nutbrown and Alan Bacon winning one point each and Newman & Bacon taking the doubles - the inclusion of Newman proving to be the masterstroke against Lou Hopkins and Tony Adams with two wins each and Alan Lovell failing to score.                     Brentwood "C" provided the unbeaten player in John Benson but could only manage a draw against Hutton "C" - Selo - Mike Hooks supported with one win and the Hooks/Benson combination took the doubles - new signing Richard Denton failed to score.  For Hutton, Richard Hayhoe and Joan Cook won two each with Ron Milbourn collecting one point.   Hayhoe's defeat by Benson coming in five ends.
